Payal Pratap: Footwear Design for Lakmé Fashion Week 2023

As part of an exclusive collaboration with renowned designer Payal Pratap Singh, I designed and handcrafted a footwear collection showcased at Lakmé Fashion Week 2023. The collection celebrated the seamless blend of traditional Indian craftsmanship with contemporary aesthetics — a hallmark of the Payal Pratap label.

Drawing inspiration from the designer's intricate prints, layered silhouettes, and artisanal narratives, the footwear was crafted to complement the rich heritage and refined modernity of her garments. Each pair was thoughtfully created to reflect elegance, comfort, and versatility — ranging from richly hued slip-ons to luxuriously embroidered flats.

The focus was on creating wearable art — shoes that not only looked stunning on the runway but also prioritized wearability and comfort. I utilized premium leathers, hand-stitched embellishments, and nuanced details to mirror the textile intricacy of the collection. The deep jewel tones and earthy textures resonated with the season’s theme, while the minimalist slip-on forms allowed ease of movement and effortless style.

This project allowed me to translate a fashion designer’s visual language into functional footwear — a process that involved close coordination with the design house and a deep understanding of the brand's ethos. It was an enriching experience that brought together fashion, culture, and craftsmanship on one of India's most prestigious platforms.
